Website Setup Page
Step 1: Register Your Domain Name
Before you setup your website, you need to register your
domain name. Dot com names (.com) are the best to use rather than dot net or one of the other alternatives.
The best and least expensive place to register your domain that I've found is GoDaddy.com. You can register your domain for only $8.95 a year.
When you regigster, Go Daddy will offer you the option for signing up for cheap hosting. I'd recommend against
using their hosting plan. They don't include enough of the tools you'll need for a commercial website.
If you already have your domain registered, then go to step 2.
Step 2: Sign Up for Web Hosting
After you register your domain name, you'll
need to choose a hosting company. There are thousands of choices, some good, some bad. Avoid
using any of the free hosting services. They scream AMATEUR and force popups and banner ads
on your visitors and are also notoriously slow.
The best hosting service I've found is Host For Profit. You get 300 megs
of space for your site's pages and files, unlimited autoresponders and email addresses and virtually
every feature you'd want in a website. As an added bonus, you get membership in the Warriors Forum.
The Warriors Forum is a place where you can post questions for thousands of experienced Internet marketers
to answer. Here you can find joint venture partners, people to review your website or just a place to toss
out new ideas. It's a free membership as long as you use the hosting service.
One of the best features of this particular hosting service is that you can host additional domains
for $5. While they'll count against your 300 mb limit, you do get a full account with unlimited emails,
stats and so on for each domain. This saves me a fortune in hosting fees. I have six domains and was
paying over $120 a month to host them all. Now I pay a fraction of that.
Once you've purchased your hosting account, the company will send you instructions on how to
quickly make the changes at godaddy.com to get your domain pointed to the right address.
Step 3: Create Your Website
There are a number of different ways to go about
creating your own web pages. You can:
- Build it yourself using HTML
- Use 'easy to use' software like MS Front Page
- Use instant page creation software
- Hire someone to build your pages for you
Let's take a look at each of these options:
Build it yourself: If you're already familiar with HTML then you can skip this step. If
you're the do-it-yourself type, then I've got an ebook that will show you everything you need to
know about building your own website. It's called
65 Instant Web Design Answers and it's a great
book for either experienced webmasters or newbies.
